WindBand Shroud Protection

Cell Towers operate under demanding conditions. Materials are exposed to continuous strain from the elements. UV exposure, wind-driven vibrations, and flexing put any antenna shroud to the test. It is a given that structural cracks will develop over time, increasing the risk of catastrophic shroud failure.  A falling shroud poses a risk to people and property.

The WindBand provides an additional line of defense to keep the canisters in place on the tower. It uses high-strength, long-lasting materials and can be installed in about 3 to 5 minutes. It wraps around the multi-section or cylindrical shroud, keeping it in place when fasteners are left out, when they begin to crack, and under high wind conditions.

After the initial installation, WindBands take less than a minute to remove or reinstall.  Fast, easy and reusable!

Why Choose WindBands?

Tower Longevity: Keeping Shrouds in Place

As antenna bay concealment shrouds age, they crack, loosen, and fall off towers. Missing fasteners concentrate stress at remaining connection points. Combined with modest winds, poorly secured shrouds blow off completely. Once airborne, shrouds rarely survive impact and require costly replacement.

Risk and liability

Minimize Risk and Liability

A falling shroud can cause significant injuries and property damage. Towers are often placed near offices, schools, parks, roadways, and parking lots. Improve cell tower site safety by securing shrouds before there is a problem. Protect people and property with preventive maintenance.

Crane at tower

Significant Cost Savings

Tower shrouds cost thousands to replace, requiring installation crews and cranes. WindBands are an inexpensive solution that's quick to install, preventing expensive replacements before problems occur. Unlike tape solutions, WindBands are reusable and reinstall in one minute, saving big on labor and materials.

How We Make The Calculation

On average, using WindBands saves 10 minutes of crew/crane time for each removal and reinstallation cycle per band compared to hurricane tape. That adds up quickly. For customers with a large set of sites to manage, this can easily save hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

WindBands are designed with a 10+ year service life and are built for indefinite reusability, meaning you purchase them once and use them for the lifetime of your tower. This eliminates the recurring material costs associated with one-time use packaging tape. Additionally, WindBands provide far more reliable asset protection with consistent, predictable performance. Unlike hurricane tape which can vary significantly in effectiveness depending on installation conditions, weather, and adhesion quality, WindBands deliver uniform protection with high-strength materials rated at 3900+ lbs breaking strength per bay when configured with 3 WindBands.

Note: These cost estimates are based on a typical concealed array monopole tower configuration using 3 bands per bay/shroud.

Strength

135 lbs Breaking Strength

Pull tests reveal buckle system fails at just 135 lbs on average.

3900+ lbs Breaking Strength

High-strength materials provide 3900+ lbs breaking strength per bay when configured with 3 WindBands.
Level of Protection

Low Protection

Low-strength materials and a complex installation process that's prone to errors do not ensure consistent, reliable protection.

Superior Protection

High-strength materials, quality design, and ease of installation ensure consistent, reliable protection.
Ease of Installation

Difficult and Risky

Requires crane operator to circle the crew basket around the tower repeatedly for each wrap. This increases risk of tower damage from scraping and impact. Installation crew must reach far outside basket, creating liability concerns.

Simple and Safe

No need to circle crew basket around tower. On large diameter towers, crew uses the Lasso Loop to pass the WindBand around. Minimal skills needed with provided basic tools. Webbing path graphic printed on strap for guidance.
Speed of Installation

Slow and Labor Intensive

Tower must be completely dry. Wrapping tape is slow and difficult even with 2 people. The entire slow process repeats every time an antenna bay needs service.

Fast Installation & Removal

Initial installation: under 5 minutes per WindBand. Removal and reinstallation: under 1 minute per WindBand.
Reusability

Single Use

Most materials cannot be reused, especially if straps are cut during removal. Crews must constantly maintain inventory of replacement materials.

Indefinitely Reusable

Components can be reused indefinitely, reducing waste and saving money on materials over time.
Installation Success Rate

Prone to Installation Errors

Complex installation process increases likelihood of improper installation and reinstallation.

Consistent Proper Installation

Simple, straightforward installation process ensures proper installation every time.
Durability

Poor Weather Resistance

  • Packaging tape is not designed for structural use on towers.
  • Not UV or outdoor rated for 24/7 exposure.
  • Tape deteriorates and comes off over time, creating an unsightly appearance.
  • Poor adhesion on moist or dirty surfaces.

Designed for Long-Term Use

  • UV resistant materials for outdoor durability
  • Designed for 10+ years of service life
  • Rugged construction withstands harsh conditions
  • No edges to catch halyard ropes on flag towers
5 Year Cost per Tower

$16,500

High ongoing costs due to repeated material purchases and longer labor time per service visit.

$4,088

Lower total cost due to one-time material purchase and significantly reduced labor time.
